The Open Source Candidate

February 7th, 2008 | by Johnny |

A fellow I much admire in the Open Source community, WHurley, has an interesting question during this political season. Which candidate is the Open Source candidate? Or, more accurately, which candidate would understand or even use open source? Which one would be most likely to understand and support the frame of mind behind the open source movement?
Even on a very literal level, imagine the money saved if the federal government moved to open source software faster.
Anyway, he has a poll going from now until the election asking who you think the “Open Source Candidate” is. There is a movement afoot. Open Source is not just software, it’s a way of thinking. Let everyone know who you think the OSS candidate is.

Of the main candidates I’d have to agree that it’s Obama and maybe McCain. But I’m a little disappointed that Ron Paul has been forgotten.

So check it out, vote for who you think is the open source candidate. Then get out and vote for them!

    Hey Johnny,

Thanks for posting this! Hopefully we can get a large number (100k plus) of people to share their opinion on this.

As with all things open source, the code to the poll is available on my website for anyone who wants to take it and use it as their own.

Thanks again for helping drive interest in this!

    ttys,
    whurley
